What would cause that? Because SVX for $800.

those trannies in those are junk. I restored one 3 years ago. 210K and on its 3rd tranny. Cars are sweet. That is worth it for the motor if the head gaskets are good. (pics before resto)

What would cause that?

Its need to be 5-speed swapped.

NP. Good project potential there.

Worth it for the motor, not much else. I've owned one, common failure points are:

- Transmission (every 50-60k)
- Brakes (every 15-30k)
- Wheel bearings (every 5-20k)

Buy it, buy a WRX shell with a blown or non-existant motor, and drop the 300+ HP H-6 into the WRX chassis.

Voila: rallycross car.

If I was closer I might be tempted to snag it up.

I don't have the space, skills, tools, or funds to tackle anything. I could wash it...

Sounds like lack of a 5-speed would cause that.

Apparently it's not massively difficult :)

My mechanical experience basically amounts to erector sets. I'd love to learn, but I don't have anywhere to keep a project.

No worries, and judging by how my supposedly straight forward 5-speed swap into my XJ40 was going before a tree fell on the car, it's still a pain in the arse.

Should be fairly straightforwards for a 'shop to do though.
